Qualcomm and Thales Introduce iSIM for Snapdragon 8 Gen 2

Qualcomm, the industry-standard smartphone chipmaker, has teamed up with Thales, a world-renowned digital security company, to launch an innovative new feature for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 mobile platform: iSIM.

When a CPU has iSIM capabilities built in, it eliminates the need for a physical SIM card. This has the added benefit of reducing the device’s power consumption and size by doing away with the requirement for a dedicated SIM card port.

In addition to the benefits of increased security, iSIM shields the user’s personal information and data from hackers and viruses. iSIM is compatible with numerous mobile network carriers and follows GSMA standards, providing consumers with greater freedom and ease.

At MWC 2023, the largest event in the mobile industry, Qualcomm and Thales revealed the first commercially deployable iSIM on Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. As a result of this development, smartphones will have a better user experience thanks to iSIM, which will also open up new applications, according to statement made by both the companies.

It is anticipated that later this year, iSIM will be accessible in handsets running on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor.
