Pakistan’s Petrol Shortage Forces Pumps to Shut Down

The economic crisis in Pakistan is forcing the petrol pumps to shut down. Following the crisis, several petrol pumps in its Punjab region ran out of petrol, disturbing the people’s regular life. Reportedly, some remote areas have had no supply of petrol for more than a month now, causing serious trouble for the country’s people.

The petrol shortage remained constant even after the government assured of enough supply. Viewing the situation, the government declared to take severe actions against hoarders.

Besides, the Pakistan Petroleum Dealers Association (PPDA) has held all the Oil marketing companies (OMCs) responsible for the petrol shortage. PPDA stated that the pumps remained empty since the companies failed to provide enough supplies according to the demand. The situation further forces vehicle owners to drive to the urban areas to fill petrol.

However, the OMC Association of Pakistan denied the accusation and specified that petrol pumps intended to stockpile gasoline. It also claimed that the pumps are creating fake shortages to hike up the cost of gasoline.

Reportedly, due to a severe fuel shortage, many petrol pumps in small and large cities of Pakistan have been shut down. Besides, the situation seemed to deteriorate in large towns, including Lahore, Gujranwala, and Faisalabad.
