Flight delay caused by computer crash leaves multiple passengers stranded at Hong Kong airport
According to TVB, hundreds of travellers at Hong Kong’s international airport experienced delays on Thursday due to a computer services outage. The footage revealed scores of people waiting in queues with their luggage as registration for check-in at multiple rows in the usually efficient airport was closed. The Airport Authority is preparing a statement on the incident but could not verify the specifics.
The South China Morning Post noted that Cathay Pacific Airways, Hong Kong’s flagship carrier, was one of the most affected airlines. The company has yet to respond to requests for comment on the situation. Before the COVID-19 pandemic, Hong Kong’s airport was one of the busiest international hubs, with over 71 million passengers in 2019. To attract travellers and business people back to the Chinese administrative region after a shortage of visitors over the past three years due to COVID restrictions, the city government has launched a promotional campaign called “Hello Hong Kong,” starting in March.
